Dare To Dream Why not try engineering? Better yet, why not become a neurosurgeon. You have probably sat down with your parents and had the all-important “what-do-you-want-to-be-in-future?” talk. Most times it is the odd conversation involving you listening and them talking; them imparting compulsory wisdom and you taking it in without a thought. What follows is a cycle of vents that lead you to the statement…”Is this what I want to be doing? Is this what I really want my future to be made of?”

You see, as a young child, you have dreams. Personally, I wanted to be a pilot, a soccer star, an actor, an engineer and even at one odd moment a lawyer. But through all these phases, there was something that was always common. I was always writing. I was always making up stories, on small pieces of paper and in rough books. That is how I knew I wanted to be a writer…an author…a creator of worlds and universes. When I discovered all this, I was probably old enough and had sat through that dictatorial conversation with my parents.

No offence to lawyers, doctors and all those that love those professions. My point is that you love them. If you love something, trust me you will do it without a care in the world. However hard it will get, the struggle will be the last thing on your mind. Even when you reach that age where you start to question all your decisions, you will not have those “what if moments?” You will not have regrets over not chasing your dreams.

If you have a dream, a talent or even a desire, then go ahead and do it. There is no tomorrow, no yesterday, just today. If you fear your parents, then it is worth it. All you must do is tell them to support you. It is their place to want the best for you and if you can convince them that what you want to do is what will make you happy, do it.

And I know it can be scary, but a friend of mine, once told me, if your dreams do not scare you, then they are probably do not know what you truly want.

I say chase your dream. If it does not work out as planned, the first and best thing is not to give up, the second best, check through your “dreams” closet and pick out another dream to chase. Remember, the best life to live is one that you have made for yourself and are very happy with, regardless of the ups and downs that you may go through to get that life! It all just starts with a dream. You have it-you want it-then go get it.

I really want to be a fictional writer. i tend to scribble poems in the back of my book during lessons, i have a wild imagination but also scares me a little, being a Ugandan student where my future dream as a writer might not be strongly supported or approved by my environment and tend to be challenged by scientists who are fully supported by the system. but am really grateful i still hope because off this website.     Lavender | Sep 30 2021 2:51AM
