Students today are realizing the need to have academic motivation in order to succeed in school. One of the most important things for primary and high school students is the key to raising their grades. Academic motivation can be received from parents, family members, friends and people who have your best interest at heart or who mean you well and want you to succeed in life. For the most part though, it is your decision to succeed that will enable you to increase your grade scores.
The saying, “birds of the same feather flock together,” holds true and you can make it work for you by finding academically smarter students than you are and flocking to them so you can learn how they study and what makes them succeed. Meet , a student whose academic journey is one to tell.
[Interview]
Qn. Who is Dreck Mugizi?
Ans. Dreck is a 22 yr old, born and raised in Bushenyi and currently living in Kampala. I attended Bweranyangi Junior for my primary, Namugongo O and A level and now at Makerere University, doing electrical engineering third year.
Qn. Favorite color?
Ans. Brown
Qn. Favourite food?
Ans. That nice chicken from Tuskeys!! I don’t know how they do it, but it is tasty!
Qn. You hold a record of being an exceptional and inspirational student. What is your motivation?
Ans. My big brothers-I look up to them and try to do better.
Qn. And what or who would you attribute your continuous success to?
Ans. (Without thinking about it he says…) Hard work, putting in a considerable amount of effort is definately hard work. You have to know how much to put in in order to get the results that you want.
Qn. What have been some of your biggest challenges in your academic journey?
Ans. Things are tough sometimes, so when I would ask my friends about something, they often interpreted it as me trying to test their intelligence. Or you ask someone a question and they think you are simply asking them so they may fail it and you laugh. And also some teachers didn't like me. Say I would be dodging a class alongside other students and they would pick on me and say I am misleading the other students. Also at times my friend would ask me a question and when I tell them I don’t know the answer, they always thought I’m holding back information.
Qn. Would you honestly not know or you were just afraid of being isolated for being too smart?
Ans. (laughs) I would honestly not know and would never withhold information. I’m not mean.
Qn. What achievement are you most proud of?
Ans. Do you have a full page for that because they are many!! (Laughs) but mainly they are academic achievements. One of the country’s top students, both O and A level, I have been a champion to the national math contest thrice.
Qn. What three things would you not live without?
Ans. Three things…ummmm (stares at the ceiling) three things I would not live without? Ummm friends…family and sports.
Qn. Sports??
Ans. Yes. I play most sports and those that I don’t play, I’m a fan.
Qn. Who would you like to change lives with for a day if you could?
Ans. (smiles widely, then…) Charlie Sheen.
Qn. You would like to be Charlie Sheen for one day!!?
Ans. Yes! Just for one day! It wouldn't kill.
Qn. Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
Ans. In the next 5 years, I see myself having a PhD in electrical engineering, successful businessman, married, with two kids-hopefully twins. And hopefully, I hope I will still be alive.
Qn. If you flash back 5 years back into high school, do you think this kind of application would have contributed to your academic excellence?
Ans. Yes, it would be very helpful. I have seen so many people who have been academically misguided. So it would have been helpful during my time.
Qn. What advice do u have for the students out there?
Ans. You need to know how much effort to put into books in order to yield good results. The moment you know that, then you are on your way to being successful. If you have to do too much, then do too much. And you should also know that you have one shot at life, so enjoy.
